Air India JFK International Airport Terminal 4

Daroff Design Inc. + DDI Architects, PC (DDI) was hired by TAV to design and lead the interior renovation for the Air India Lounge at JFK International Airport’s Terminal 4 in 2019. In an effort to immensely improve the passenger experience, DDI increased the seating capacity, selected all new finishes including cabinetry, ceiling, flooring and wallcovering, created a new millwork design, and reconfigured the space plan to allow for more efficient foot traffic through the approximately 3000 SF space. Given DDI’s extensive hospitality, workplace and aviation design experience, the team evidenced an effective skillset to deliver a welcoming, comfortable and professional environment for business travelers, vacationers and families alike.

Given the busy travel season expected at the time of DDI’s engagement for the project, the team was working under a very condensed 8-week design schedule and tight budget. Addressing one of the major hurdles for this lounge operation, DDI created an easy-to-use luggage storage system to allow travelers to easily store and collect their luggage without having to rely on the receptionist, while also adhering to security protocols of the airport.
